About the Program
Established in 1996, the Mandel Teacher Educator Institute (MTEI) strengthens the Jewish community by developing educational leaders—teachers of teachers—who spearhead powerful and innovative professional development experiences for their institutions and communities.
MTEI is an intensive, two-year program comprising six four-day seminars with assignments between meetings. The program invites educators nationwide to share an immersive experience that intertwines best practices in teacher education and professional development with Jewish texts and “big ideas.”
MTEI critically examines the core assumptions, practices and ideas that shape teaching and professional development approaches. Faculty and participants model active learning strategies and work collaboratively to investigate pedagogic choices that are unique to Jewish educational settings.
The insights and skills learned from the program are transferable to the professional development experiences our participants create and supervise. Program participants and a graduate base of over 400 individuals speak enthusiastically about the changes they implement and more importantly, the results.
