In October, the Mandel Institute for Nonprofit Leadership, a project of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation, will announce the inaugural cohort of its Executive Leadership Program. More than 100 senior Jewish community center and Jewish federation professionals were nominated for the program, from which 18 will be selected as fellows. The program will launch in January 2018, and continue for 16 months.
The aim of the Executive Leadership Program is to expand the leadership pipeline and improve the capacity of rising leaders to address opportunities and challenges in their organizations and communities. The program builds upon the Foundation’s decades-long support of nonprofit organizations.
This particular 16-month program will emphasize cohort learning during three five-day seminars in Boston and a ten-day seminar in Israel. The program faculty, comprised of outstanding scholars and practitioners, will accompany the fellows throughout the program. These seminars will examine opportunities and challenges through three curricular tracks:
- Leadership and Nonprofit management: Fellows will craft strategies and sharpen skills for organizational and communal change.
- Visions and Values: Fellows will examine alternative conceptions of Jewish purposes and competing visions of the Jewish community at its best.
- Contemporary Jewish Life: Fellows will analyze organizational and communal challenges in relation to broader social, cultural and demographic trends.
During the seminars, and in between seminars through online learning, Fellows will have opportunities to sharpen their skills in critical areas of nonprofit management, including strategic planning, organizing, marketing, financial management, fundraising and evaluation.
As rising leaders, program fellows will also have the opportunity to consult with individual advisors about challenges within their organizations and during career transitions. In contrast to the program faculty, who offer expertise within particular disciplinary fields, the advisors will be former executives of large nonprofit organizations–mostly federations and JCCs.
