The Mandel Teacher Educator Institute (MTEI) celebrated the graduation of its seventh cohort this past spring. A program of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation, MTEI’s goal is to develop leaders – “teachers of teachers” - who can produce significant change in teaching and learning through planning and implementing improved and creative professional development for teachers in their institutions.

Started in 1995, MTEI is a two-year intensive professional development program building educational leadership through six in-depth seminars. Participants also work in between seminars with their peers and faculty. Nearly 300 individuals have now graduated from the program and are serving as change agents in the Jewish educational system.
Shares one graduate, “The collaborative nature of the learning was remarkable. I felt supported throughout by both faculty and participants. We are not working in a vacuum and the opportunities to talk about the practices, the positives, the concerns, the successes, and the challenges were essential to my growth.”
MTEI works across denominational affiliation, and consequently participants work in a wide variety of settings, including day schools, congregational schools and national agencies.
The eighth MTEI cohort will begin in November 2017.
About the Organization
At its core, MTEI is designed to cultivate educational excellence by preparing Jewish educational leaders to become skilled "teachers of teachers." When educational leaders complete the MTEI program, schools and synagogues become places where educators learn together, examine practice thoughtfully, and engage deeply with both pedagogy and Jewish content. Participants leave with practical tools and lasting professional relationships that strengthen learning across their institutions and communities. Learn more at mtei-learning.org
