Founded in 1934 by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, the Weizmann Institute is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary research institutions. With the rapid advancement of science, the education of scientists has become increasingly focused on technical expertise at the expense of a broader humanistic education.  In response to this, the Mandel Foundation established the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Program for Art, Humanities, and Science in 2021 and provides ongoing support for its efforts to expand and deepen humanities education as a vital counterpart to scientific discovery.

When Iranian missile attacks critically damaged the Advanced Chemical Materials Research Building and destroyed the Institute for Cancer Research in June 2025, hundreds of scientists working at the facility lost research data from over 45 labs, some containing the researcher’s entire life’s work. With damage estimated at over $570 million, the Foundation allocated $26 million to help scientists replace lost or damaged lab equipment and rebuild labs, helping enable critical research to continue and eventually be fully resumed.
