- United Way of Greater Cleveland
Since its formation as the nation’s first modern community chest in 1913 – then known as the Cleveland Federation for Charity and Philanthropy – the United Way of Greater Cleveland has been providing necessary services and working to improve the quality of life for Clevelanders for more than 100 years. Today, the United Way of Greater Cleveland is focused on addressing the immediate needs of those in crisis while also developing long-term solutions to initiate systemic change and break the cycle of poverty within our communities. The organization’s mission-driven work has long resonated with the Mandel Foundation, which began its support of the United Way in 1961, providing at least one grant each year for the past 60 years and counting. In recognition of the Foundation’s significant capital support, the United Way’s downtown headquarters was named the “Mandel Community Building” in 1994, with subsequent capital grants in 2018 and 2019 supporting major renovations to the building. In 2022, the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Fund was established with a $10 million gift as a part of the Cleveland Community Fund, to ensure that the United Way can provide essential services to those most in need across the Greater Cleveland community for generations to come.
