- Ukraine Relief and Recovery
Since the start of the Ukraine war, the Mandel Foundation allocated $7.6 million in emergency funding, distributed through several organizations, including the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), and United Hatzalah. The JDC utilized these funds to establish emergency hotlines, handle over 67,000 calls, organize over 13,000 evacuations, and provide basic necessities to over 40,000 refugees. They also offered ongoing relief to those remaining in Ukraine. United Hatzalah helped over 3,000 displaced individuals resettle in Israel, distributed generators to heavily impacted areas, and provided over 145 tons of aid, including food and medicine. The funds also facilitated the transport of medical professionals and crisis response teams. These efforts are focused on four main areas: providing essential aid such as food, medicine, and shelter; offering trauma and mental health services; combating unemployment through remote freelance opportunities; and addressing educational disruptions caused by the war and the pandemic through trauma-informed tutoring and support for children’s education.
