Between 2017 and 2020, The Mandel Foundation has committed to providing over $8 million to establish three initiatives at Tel Aviv University (TAU) including the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Humanities in Engineering Program (2017); the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Humanities in Exact and Life Sciences Program (2019); and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Humanities for All STEM Program (2020). Collectively referred to as the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Humanities in STEM, these programs enhance cross-cultural and multidisciplinary research, providing engineering and science students with the skills acquired through the study of the humanities to offer STEM students a more comprehensive understanding of the world. Furthering this same goal, in 2023, the Foundation awarded a grant of $1.6 million to establish the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Center for Public Humanities at TAU. A first-of-its-kind initiative in Israel, the Mandel Center for Public Humanities will deliver the dynamic knowledge, values, and methods of inquiry of the Humanities to decision-makers and professionals in local government, businesses, NGOs, schools, cultural and community organizations, and to the public at large.
