John Caroll University

John Carroll University, founded in 1886, is a Jesuit Catholic liberal arts university that prepares students through academic rigor, experiential learning, and a commitment to moral reflection and the common good. In 2021, the Mandel Foundation awarded a $1.5 million gift to establish the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Chair in Jewish Studies, helping position John Carroll as a
regional hub for interreligious scholarship and dialogue among the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions.

The Mandel Chair advances Jewish Studies through teaching, research, public programming, community partnerships, and
opportunities for students to engage with Jewish life and learning. The gift reflects the Mandel Foundation’s commitments to Jewish life, the humanities, and leadership by deepening understanding across faith communities and fostering conversations rooted in learning and shared civic responsibility.
