In 2023, the Mandel Foundation awarded $13 million to Cleveland Metroparks to support the construction of the Mandel Community Trail and the revitalization of South Gordon Park. The Mandel Community Trail, a multi-use pathway, will provide much-needed safe access to the lakefront and connect the eastern lakefront to regional attractions from Downtown to University Circle. Funds will also support the revitalization of South Gordon Park, a waterfront park currently bifurcated by Interstate 90, to create a new cohesive lakefront park known as Gordon Park Reservation, connecting the St. Clair Superior and Glenville neighborhoods to Lake Erie while activating the area for public use. Expanding on this vision of a more accessible lakefront, the Foundation also approved a $3 million grant in 2024 to support the construction of the Patrick S. Parker Community Sailing Center, the first center in Ohio to provide free and low-cost sailing opportunities and year-round community programming.
