Since its launch in 2020, the CANVAS Collaborative Fund, a Jewish arts funding and field-building collaborative facilitated through the Jewish Funders Network, has distributed $4.3 million in direct grants, supported more than 3,000 Jewish artists, and launched a leadership program for executive leaders in Jewish arts and culture. In its first five years, the Mandel Foundation supported CANVAS through a total of $1.1 million in grant funding to join as a collaborative partner and provide continued support and participation. Following a successful five-year milestone, the Mandel Foundation allocated an additional $2.5 million 3-year grant, the largest donation in the CANVAS history and a very significant investment toward strengthening the Jewish arts and culture ecosystem. These funds will help expand three core areas of the CANVAS Collaborative Fund’s strategic growth, including staffing, pooled grantmaking, and leadership development. Amid rising antisemitism and declining arts funding, this transformative investment will help ensure the vitality and resilience of Jewish arts and culture, in keeping with the Mandel Foundation’s commitment to investing in Jewish Life and the Humanities.
