Both the Mandel Foundation and the Mandel family have longstanding and significant connections to Brandeis University, and the Foundation has provided over $56 million in grants to support many projects and programs for over three decades. Most notably, this includes establishing and supporting two centers: the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education (MCSJE) in 2002 and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for the Humanities in 2010. The MCSJE is dedicated to understanding and transforming the practices of teaching and learning in Jewish educational settings. The Foundation’s annual operating support helps MCSJE produce work that inspires Jewish educators and policy makers to think, talk and act more effectively, to make a deep and lasting difference in the lives of learners and to strengthen the vibrancy of the Jewish community. The Mandel Humanities Center promotes interdisciplinary work across fields like literature, language, and philosophy. During the Humanities Center opening, Mort Mandel affirmed his hope that the space would “encourage interdisciplinary work of the humanities and all fields at Brandeis."
