- The Cleveland Orchestra
Founded in 1918, The Cleveland Orchestra is recognized as one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world. It has been thriving under the leadership of director Franz Welser-Möst since 2002 and has been strengthened by Mandel Foundation support for over three decades, culminating in a historic $50 million gift in 2021 – the largest ever for both organizations. Through this grant, dedicated endowment funds were established to expand the Orchestra’s programs and partnerships, bolster its financial position, and establish the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Opera and Humanities Festival. It will also enable the Orchestra to expand access to digital programming and content through online streaming. In recognition of the Mandel Foundation’s longtime commitment to Cleveland and the humanities, the Cleveland Orchestra rededicated its main performance space, naming it the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Concert Hall at Severance Music Center.
