As a basis for our activity, we initiate research studies, surveys, and the development of knowledge on topics relevant to our programs. This knowledge serves as a theoretical framework for the programs and as a foundation for the learning process. Surveys were conducted on the following topics:
1. Local peoples moving to planned settlements: test cases from Canada, Australia, and Jordan—Dr. Batya Roded
2. District administration: models and mechanisms—models of district administration around the world and practices and mechanisms for district-level government—Dr. Nahum Ben-Elia
Part of MCLN’s activity involves using tools and models for mapping, planning, and so on. The process sometimes requires adapting standard tools to specific needs and developing new tools. For instance, we developed the “open mapping” tool to map out the area of activity. This tool makes it possible to obtain a reliable, broad picture using clear tests, while building trust and establishing a shared factual basis for a vision. Another tool being developed is an information management system based on a geographical organizing principle as a platform for a learning process in the locality.
